HARNESSING THE
ENVIRONMENT
How it works:
The ground source heat pumps work similarly to a domestic fridge but in reverse. It takes in heat from the ground, usually at 12 degrees centigrade, throughout the year, 2 metres below the ground. Using a refrigerated heat pump it is then converted to the required temperature for under floor heating. An electric element provides a top up for any hot water. Industry estimates suggest that in addition to substantial reductions in carbon output the user can expect an annual cost saving of up to 50%.
There is a wide variety of alternative heating systems coming to the market. However, Fairfax continue to monitor the efficiencies, economies and environmental benefits of these. Where there are improvements we will bring new introductions to our homes if deemed to be beneficial for our customers.
